JOB DESCRIPTION

The County of Volusia is seeking a Workers' Compensation Claims Adjuster for the Personnel Division. This is a temporary position (6 months up to 1 year- maybe longer depending on budget) located in Deland, Florida. Responsibilities includes: handling a caseload of approximately 100 pending Florida claims that encompass all levels of complexity, as well as, establishing facts of loss, investigation, compensability determination, coordination of medical care, payment of benefits and appropriate use of authorized vendors. Also includes timely and appropriate reserve analysis and report completion. All file handling must be within state statute and County best practice guidelines. Assist team and perform other duties as directed.
Candidate must have excellent organizational and communication skills along with a focus on quality customer service.

Salary commensurate with experience ($14.68 - $16.75).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from high school/GED and at least one (1) year of experience in Florida workers' compensation and possess a current Florida adjuster license (520, 540, 620, or 624).
Note: must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license at the time of hire.

o Handles a caseload of approximately 100 pending Florida claims that encompass all levels of complexity.
o Establishes facts of loss, investigation and compensability determination.
o Coordinates of medical care, payment of benefits and appropriate use of authorized vendors.
o Completes timely and appropriate reserve analysis and report.
o Completes all file handling must be within state statute and County best practice guidelines.
o Assists team and perform other duties as directed.
o Attends work on a continuous and regular basis.
o Must adhere to Federal State, County and Local ordinances.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
o Knowledge of Florida statutes pertinent to assigned line of business. (Ex. 440 112.18 for worker's compensation), including case law changes and various annual updates.
o Knowledge of procedures, forms and policies relating to managing and resolving workers' compensation claims along with familiarity of the EDI (Electronic Database Interface) reporting process.
o Knowledge of practices and techniques of effective record keeping.
o Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills. Computer literate to include use of Microsoft Office products. Strong, analytical, interpretive and problem solving skills. Strong organizational skills. Excellent negotiation skills. Clear and conceptual thinking and able to exercise good judgment. Able to work in a team environment. Able to work in a professional nature with claimants, attorneys, ombudsmen, state office and county staff.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
